The Great Kitbash Challenge 2025
From Classic Bits to Bold Builds - Celebrating Warhammer’s Past and Present
t Merlin’s Miniatures, we believe Warhammer is more than just following the instructions on a sprue, it’s about imagination, experimentation, and sometimes a bit of glorious chaos! That’s why we’re launching The Great Kitbash Challenge: an annual competition that brings together 30+ years of Games Workshop history and the fearless creativity of the hobby community.
We’ve pulled together five special “bit bags” stuffed with random parts from across decades of Warhammer, from vintage weapons and classic shields to bodies, arms, and heads from Warhammer Fantasy, 40K, Necromunda, and more. Each bag has been sent to a handpicked creator with a single rule:
What We’re Celebrating
- Legacy – 3+ decades of miniature design, evolution, & hobby history.
- Creativity – Mix eras, break the rules, and make something brand new.
- Weirdness – Because kitbashing is at its best when it’s unexpected.
- Community – Shining a light on some of the incredible hobbyists
How It Works
- The Challenge – Each of our five creators builds and paints a miniature using only their bag of bits.
- The Reveal – We’ll showcase all five finished creations on Instagram.
- The Vote – The community decides the winner! Cast your vote and help crown the champion kitbasher.
- The Celebration – We’ll share all entries and the winner across Merlin’s channels, along with plenty of behind-the-scenes fun.
- The Trophy – Awarded to the winning creator, the coveted Kitbash Trophy is the ultimate symbol of kitbashing glory.
