What does the hobby mean to me?

Miniature painting and the tabletop hobby in general has been something that I have fallen in love with more and more since being introduced to it as a child. My grandfather and father built a roman fort out of off cuts of wood and painted up some little 1:72 Legionaries and instantly I was hooked.

As life has gone on and I found myself working in healthcare and subsequently starting a painting studio, I have found mini painting to have become a place of respite and way of refilling my cup. Something that has done more for my mental health over the years than I ever gave it credit.

But not only that, it has introduced me to so many incredible people and later businesses when running the studio. What started as a foray into fantasy as a child has developed into a place in an awesome and caring community.

The story behind the minis?

These minis are pretty special to me. They're Motorstrelki from the Zapad-1 kickstarter by Flank March Miniatures. They were the first ever promo/marketing work that I did for a kickstarted when first starting The Distant Veil in 2024. They marked the point in time where I had to put my own work out into the world to be judged and for me opening up to criticism and judgement rather than hiding behind the painting desk.

So really the story behind these cold war miniatures is that something that may seem small and inconsequential can snowball and lead onto things you don't expect.
